Note: the following information is from the 1901 Adjutant General's Report (Albany, NY, 1902). Corrections and other information not in the AG report are noted in Italics. Hyperlinks point to additional information, pictures, etc. for individual soldiers.

LACY, GEORGE L.-Age, 18 years. Enlisted, September 17, 1861, at Dryden, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. F, October 4, 1861; discharged for disability, October 20, 1862, at Baltimore, Md.

Bruce Beatty writes, "George Louis Lacey is my great-great-grandfather.  I only found out about him this summer, found his grave in Michigan, and there was a Civil War marker.  The local historical society had an 1890 census of soldiers that provided his unit information, and I have yesterday found on-line the graves of George's parents in Dryden, New York, which is where the two units were formed.  George served twice, discharged the first time after a saber cut to the head, enlisted in the 15th NY Cavalry and was discharged the second time, after having been captured at Lacey Springs, VA, and serving time as a prisoner at Crew & Pemberton (GH #15) in Richmond.

Couple of interesting notes for you about my George Lacey. He isn't listed on the monument in Hart, even though he lived there from 1866 until he died in 1914. In the "History of the Seventy-Sixth Regiment" by Smith, he is mistakenly identified as George L. Lason, Discharged for disability November 1862. From my trip to Hart in August I now also have George's obituary.

George Lacey's family lived at Lacey's Corner, which is now owned as the "Book Barn of the Finger Lakes" by Vladimir Dragan, at the corner of Mott & North Roads just off of Cortland Rd./ NY Route 13, by Tompkins Cortland Community College.

According to the "Memorial Roll" of the Michigan GAR, he died November 10, 1914.

In the 1890 Census Records, Lansing is listed as living in the Town of Fabius, Onondaga County, New York.  The listing gives his post office as Apulia, and under "remarks" says "discharged, Surgeon Certificate Disability"

The Medical and Surgical History-Part II, Volume II Chapter IX.--Wounds And Injuries Of The Upper Extremities. Section IV.--Injuries Of The Shaft Of The Humerus. in a table headed "Recovery after Intermediary Amputation in the Upper Third of the Shaft of the Humerus" reports Lason's wound as follows: "Lason, H. LEANING, THOMAS A.-Age, 43 years. Enlisted at Cherry Valley, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. H, October, 17, 1861 - died of disease, June 8, 1862, at Washington, D. C. Medical and Surgical History-Part III, Volume II Chapter XIII.--Anaesthetics. reports on Leaning's case as follows: 

CASE 1268.--T. A. Leaning, Co. H, 76th New York, a patient in Eckington Hospital, was troubled with stricture of the urethra. An attempted examination by the catheter was so painful that chloroform was administered on a handkerchief, pains being taken that the patient had plenty of air by holding the handkerchief far enough away from the face. In a few minutes the rigidity of the muscles yielded, but only partly, and two or three stertorous respirations were taken. The chloroform was immediately suspended and the examination by the catheter commenced. The instrument had only been introduced to about the membranous urethra when an involuntary evacuation of both bladder and bowels took place; the patient at that moment ceased to breathe and his face grew purplish. The action of the heart could not be observed at this time since the administrator had not his finger on the pulse. On being immediately observed, no pulsation could be felt at the wrist nor observed on auscultation over the heart. The tongue was immediately pulled forward with a tenaculum, but as no respiration succeeded, Marshall Hall's ready method of artificial respiration was immediately commenced. The temporal artery was also instantly cut, but only a few drops of blood escaped. Respiration incomplete and obstructed by eructation; passive vomiting, with friction of the surface by the hand and by a stiff brush, and stimulating injections of ammonia and turpentine were kept up for over two hours with no favorable result and the attempt at resuscitation was then given up. Acting Assistant Surgeon W. W. Keen, jr., who reports the case, remarks of the autopsy that "almost the only things strictly abnormal were the enormous congestion--probably passive--of the heart, fluidity of the blood, and the absence of rigor mortis."

LUTIEN, FREDERICK.-Enlisted at Ninth District, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. F, January 4, 1864; died of disease, February 3, 1864, at Washington, D. C. Listed as buried in the Military Asylum Cemetery, Washington, D.C. (now the Soldiers Home National Cemetery).

LUTT, SAMUEL.-Age, 33 years. Enlisted at Buffalo, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. G, August 8, 1863; transferred to Co. D, October 20, 1864; to Co. G, One Hundred and Forty-seventh Infantry, January 28, 1865; also borne as Lusher and Lieth.

LYNCH, GEORGE.-Age, 18 years. Enlisted at Springfield, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. I, November 12, 1861; transferred to Co. G, January 20, 1862; discharged, November 2, 1862, to enlist in Troop H, Fifth U. S. Cavalry.

Lynch, J. Private, 76th NY Regt., Co. A, died May 13, 1863. Listed as buried in the Military Asylum Cemetery, Washington, D.C. (now the Soldiers Home National Cemetery). Not in AG report. 

LYNES, DAVID.-Age, 18 years. Enlisted, October 1, 1861, at Middleburg, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. I, October 14, 1861; killed in action, July 1, 1863, at Gettysburg, Pa. Buried in Gettysburg National Cemetery (at right, Mike Brown photo).

LYONS, FAYETTE.-Age, 19 years. Enlisted, September 16, 1861, at Pitcher, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. B, October 4, 1861; dishonorably discharged, to date January 30, 1863.
